Black Beauty illustrated by Charles Keeping
Black Beauty was written by Anna Sewell and published in 1877. It became one of the best-selling and well-know books of the Victorian era. This copy is beautifully illustrated by the English artist Charles Keeping who had a keen interest in work-horses which made him the ideal illustrator for Black Beauty.
When published Black Beauty had a powerful influence on animal welfare by highlighting the abuse of horses and ponies.
Charles Keeping (1924-1988) is an award winning illustrator. He could draw superbly and the drawings of horses in this book capture the horse beautifully.
This is a lovely copy. It is the first edition with Charles Keeping’s illustrations. It is a hardback with a non price-clipped dust-wrapper, published in London in 1988. The book is in excellent condition. It is full of colour and black and white illustrations.
