This is a rare copy of one of Brian Wildsmith’s delightful children’s picture books. Published in 1969 by Oxford University Press, The Miller the Boy and the Donkey is a beautifully illustrated fable written by Jean de La Fontaine (1621-1695).

This is a large hardback in good condition. The inside pages have a few fingermarks but overall the pages are clean and bright. There is a stamp on the inside fly-leaf for a school in London.

Brian Wildsmith (1930-2016) was a British artist now considered as one of the great children’s illustrators of his era. His work from the 1950s until the mid 2000’s was both innovative and ground-breaking. In 1962 he won the Kate Greenaway Medal for illustration and book design.
