Jill Barklem (1951-2017) studied at St Martin’s School of Art in London. She is known for her love of natural history, her curiosity about traditional rural crafts and her meticulous research into the details for her illustrations. Each book would take her up to two years to produce.
The Brambly Hedge series was first published in 1980. The books were a major publishing success and have been translated into many languages. The stories were adapted for television in 1996.
