Orlando Goes to the Moon

Orlando the Marmalade Cat Goes to the Moon, a first edition written and illustrated by Kathleen Hale (1898-2000).

The first editions of Kathleen Hale’s books were drawn on the lithographic plates by Kathleen Hale. This book was printed from the plates by the renowned printer W. R. Royle and Sons Ltd, London.

Country Life published Kathleen Hale’s first book Orlando (the Marmalade Cat): A Camping Holiday, in 1938. Written and illustrated for her children, it became an instant success. She continued the series until 1972, having written nineteen illustrated Orlando children’s books.

Orlando the Marmalade Cat is one of the classic children’s book characters. This hardback copy of Orlando the Marmalade Cat Goes to the Moon is a first edition published by John Murray, London 1968. The cover is scuffed and bumped on the corners. There is some marking on the cover but the colours  on the cover are bright. The lithographed inside pages are clean and bright. Beautiful colour and black and illustrations throughout.
