Description
Robert Crumb, Art & Beauty No. 1
This is the first of three magazine books entitled Art & Beauty Magazine (To uplift and Enlighten). It gives a fascinating insight into Robert Crumb’s art. As an artist Crumb became famous as a cartoonist in the underground comix movement in the 1960s. Since then he has continued to develop as a prolific artist. This magazine is interesting in that it not only projects his view of female beauty but is also a collection of art quotations by others such as John Berger, Augustus Rodin, Paul Cezanne, Robert Henri, William Blake and more.
Art & Beauty Magazine is full of Crumb’s beautifully drawn illustrations, accompanied with his hand-drawn notes on his images and on art – and in this he combines his love of drawing his ‘strong’ women plus his views on art.
There is a wonderful undercurrent of Robert Crumb’s humour running throughout this book.
Although called a magazine this is a softcover book. Published under the name Kitchen Sink Press in 1994. The cover is a little scuffed and creased but the inside pages are clean and bright.
