The Poet Assassinated, Jim Dine

This book is illustrated by the American artist Jim Dine (b. 1935). The Poet Assassinated was written by the French poet Guillaume Apollinaire (1880-1918) in 1916.

Jim Dine’s black and white images in this book are a mixture of collage, photographs and sketches. This illustrated book is a first edition, published in 1968. It shows the evolution of Jim Dine’s image making as an artist. Many followers of his work will recognise some of the motif’s he later developed.

The Poet Assassinated, has been translated by Ron Padgett and was published by Rupert Hart-Davis, London 1968. First edition, hardback. The dust-wrapper is slightly scuffed and torn. It is protected in a cover. The cloth covered boards are slightly marked on the edges. The inside pages are clean and bright.

This is a rare book from the 1960s, showing the work of this highly regarded American artist.
