Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, a later printing of the first edition.
This copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is the first book in the Harry Potter series. It is not one of the very rare first editions that to date have realised a value of over £60,000 at auction. However this copy was printed during the first year of publication, 1997 at the beginning of the Harry Potter publishing sensation.
The rare first printing of the first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was printed in a very short run. Only 500 copies were produced, of which 300 went to libraries. There then followed a series of printings of the first book, of which this is one. This book has the numbers: (30 29 28 27 26 25 24 23) and is thus the 23rd printing of the original book in its first year.
Our copy displays the author Joanne Rowling on the copyright page. Dumbledore is illustrated by Thomas Taylor on the back cover. Triple Smarties Gold Award is displayed on the front cover. Bloomsbury Publishing, London 1997.
This book is a hardcover with an unclipped dust wrapper. The dust wrapper has light crumpling on the top and bottom edges, a very slight crease and a couple of very small marks on the back. The book is in very good condition with slight bumping on the top and bottom of the spine. Inside boards very clean. Inside pages are clean and crisp.
It’s nice to read and preserve an original copy of the book that started the Harry Potter phenomenon.
