Mayday, The Art of Shepard Fairey

Hope to Nope Exhibition London 2018

The ‘Hope to Nope’ exhibition at the Design Museum in London, 28th March to 12th August.

'Hope' by Shepard FaireyHope to Nope: Graphics and Politics 2008 -2018 is an exhibition on how graphic design and technology have played a major part in the political movements of our times.

The street artist Shepard Fairey designed the famous poster ‘Hope’ for the Obama election campaign in 2008. Shepard Fairey’s images feature in the promotion of this exhibition. Shepard Fairey is one of a number of artists who produce posters and prints that raise political and environmental questions. See ‘Mayday, The Art of Shepard Fairey’ in our bookshop.

Using art to raise matters of political and social concern is not new. Artists such as Arthur Wragg created powerful images on social issues, politics and war in the lead up to World War II. Today artists such as Banksy and Shepard Fairey continue this path.
