Description
Hokusai, Mt. Fuji in the snowstorm
Mt. Fuji in the Snowstorm is a beautiful woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). The image is clean and sharp. The colours are bright. The paper is in excellent condition. The imprint of the woodblock can be seen on the reverse.
Dating when a Japanese print is difficult. A print will often show the date when a print was originally published but printing houses often continued to pull prints from the same blocks for many years after the original publishing date. The earlier the print the better the quality because woodblock prints will deteriorate as more prints are pulled. This is a lovely, high quality print.
Paper size: 24 x 33 cm, Image size: 19.5 x 27 cm, excluding printer marks on the right hand side.
