Barnett Freedman, English Masters in Black and White, rare book from 1948.

Barnett Freedman, English Masters in Black and White.

Published by Art and Techniques, London 1948. First Edition.

With a 26 page biography of Barnett Freedman (1901 – 1958) by Jonathan Mayne, this book is a delight for anyone who admires the artwork of Barnett Freedman. The biography gives an excellent explanation of the development of Barnett Freedman’s work as a commercial artist and how he mastered black and white line illustration and the subtleties of stone lithography. The 57 pages of illustrations are very well printed and show his line and tone work at its best.

The book also includes a list of books and book-jackets illustrated by Barnett Freedman.

Hardback with dust-jacket in very good condition. Slight sunning on the spine. Some transfer staining from the dust-jacket on the free endpapers. Slight nicks top and bottom of the dust-jacket. Inside pages clean and bright.

This is a rare book from 1948.
