The artist John Buckland Wright (1897-1954) was one of the favoured illustrators of the Golden Cockerel Press. He is now recognised as a major artist in the field of engraving, book illustration and printmaking. Since his death in 1954 a number of monographs have been published on his wide range of work. The books he illustrated are highly sought after.
John Buckland Wright’s eleven wood-engravings in this book are highly accomplished and particularly beautiful. The swirling images of sensuous women perfectly compliment Laus Veneris, the long erotic poem by Swinburne (1837-1909).
